Can you guess where the UK’s electric car charging capital is? Most won’t know the answer… which is why, in December 2020, Jeep conducted extensive research to find find and map the areas of the UK with the best electric car-charging infrastructure.
Our research revealed that Coventry takes the title as the best place in mainland Britain for plug-in car owners to charge their vehicles – although it lags just behind the Outer Hebrides overall! Our analysis of the latest government data revealed there is currently one charging device for every 15 plug-in cars registered in the UK, while in Coventry there is one device per 2.3 registered plug-in car owners.
Meanwhile, EV and plug-in hybrid owners living in the Outer Hebrides are better off still, with the Na h-Eileanan Siar local authority having one charger for every 2.13 cars. Other areas leading the charge (if you’ll excuse the pun) were Fermanagh and Omagh, in Northern Ireland with 2.5 cars per charger, Wandsworth in London (2.6) and the Isle of Anglesey (2.8).
The research came shortly after the release of our first Plug in Hybrid Vehicle - the Renegade 4xe - which offers up to 26 miles of zero on the road emissions whilst maintaining Jeep’s uncompromised performance.
Damien Dally, Jeep country manager, commented: “The UK’s charging infrastructure is improving every day and it’s great to see charging devices popping up across the country. Sales of plug-in hybrids are up by almost 90 per cent this year as motorists look for a more sustainable way of driving around so the Jeep Renegade 4xe plug-in hybrid is great choice for zero emission city driving and the daily commute, while the petrol engine makes it flexible for longer journeys and trips where there might not be charging stations.”
